Our courses are designed as a progression path or can be joined at any level. STEPS and Health and Social Care are practical courses that help students understand the world of work and gain the skills needed to find a job, or understand how to reach their career goals in the future. There are no entry requirements for these courses.
The Level 2 Customer Service Certificate is a useful qualification for students who need to get their Maths and/or English qualification before moving on to an apprenticeship or further education elsewhere.
Please see the ESOL page for details of our ESOL Employability Qualification.
STEPS follows a ‘Preparation for Adulthood’ curriculum helping students develop their social, emotional and independence skills. Our aim is to build confidence and implement coping strategies for everyday life, whilst completing an Employability qualification in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Students will focus on real-life skills. Whether it’s learning how to get around town, figuring out how to access local services, getting better at working in teams or prepping for interviews, students will be gaining useful knowledge and hands-on experience to help them feel confident about facing the real world.
Cooking activities encourage teamwork, knowledge of nutrition and independent living skills. Students have great fun, eat well, whilst also developing their creative flair.
Vocational ‘taster sessions’ are encouraged for all our students enrolled on this course to assist them in identifying the career/educational pathway they wish to explore.
Enrichment activities:
For learners ready to take their skills to the next level, look no further than our Customer Service course. Whether learners are new to the college or looking to build on what they have already learnt, we will show them how to go above and beyond in the art of customer service. They will learn team work, communication skills and how to exceed customer expectations. With our tutors there to help, learners will be a pro at great service and have customers lining up to come back for more.
Transferable skills:
Communication: Effective communication skills, such as active listening, clear verbal and written communication, and conflict resolution. Time management: prioritising tasks, meeting deadlines, and managing workload efficiently.
Teamwork: Collaborating and building relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
Over the course of this programme, students will cover practical topics such as safeguarding and protection, communication, equality and inclusion, health and safety, and person-centred support. Students will also have opportunities to learn about child development, autism spectrum conditions, mental health, healthy lifestyles, and supporting healthy eating. These broad topics prepare students for progression to higher qualifications or entry-level roles in the care sector.
The course promotes personal growth, develops communication and teamwork skills, and introduces the values and principles essential for working in a variety of care environments. Learners will receive full support throughout their studies, ensuring a nurturing environment for success and progression.
