English and maths are a central part of all Study Programmes. They will be taught separately as well as embedded within vocational courses.
Functional Skills are the essential elements of English and maths needed to effectively participate in society, continue in education or find work. English and maths help reinforce skills in communication, problem solving, listening, time-management and teamwork. All teaching is inspired by real-life situations to make the learning relevant and fun.
Students will have the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised qualification with the awarding body City & Guilds in Functional Skills English and maths.
All students who have achieved GCSE grade 3 will need to re-sit their GCSE qualifications during their time at SDT.
Students will complete their GCSE resit sessions within their set timetable during small group sessions.
If a student has achieved below a Grade 3, they will undertake Functional Skills English and maths.
